Backbeat Lab is a practice reference for drum kit and hand percussion. It collects rudiments, grooves and bench work in one place, each one written out with the tempo window, meter, subdivision and sticking that make it playable rather than merely described.

How the drills are organised
Rudiments are laddered by the tempo they are practised at: 40, 60, 80 and 100 BPM. The tier is not a difficulty label so much as a working condition — at 40 BPM a double stroke has to be placed deliberately, and at 100 it has to survive a decay. Each rudiment states its own tempo window as well, because a pattern that lives at 60 is not automatically useful at 140.
Grooves are filed by meter and listed with their tempo, subdivision and sticking, so a 6/8 blues shuffle and a 7/8 odd-meter pattern are never confused with each other. Bench notes cover the adjustments that decide how a kit responds: head tuning, pedal setup, cymbals and stick choice.
Where the figures come from
Every figure on the site is generated from the drill's own data when the site is built — the pad grids from the pattern, the staff skeletons from the meter and subdivision, the hit positions from the sticking. Nothing is a stock illustration, and nothing is drawn by hand, which means a corrected pattern produces a corrected figure automatically.
The tempo ladders, the metronome and the beat pins use the browser's own audio and animation support. There is no tracking pixel on this site and no third-party script other than the measurement snippet and the ad code described in the privacy page.
Editorial standard
Numbers in the text are meant to be checkable: BPM figures, stroke counts, millisecond gaps, tuning intervals and weight ranges are stated so a reader can test them against their own kit and their own click. When a claim is a convention rather than a measurement, the text says so.
Corrections are welcome and are made in the text rather than in a changelog. There is no sponsored content on this site; nothing here is placed in exchange for money.
